Two Lansing coin dealerships are celebrating the debut of the new America The Beautiful Quarters™ Program by again conducting a “Cans For Quarters” campaign.  From May 3 through May 31, they will be giving away thousands of the new 2010 Hot Springs National Park quarters to people who bring non-perishable food or cash donations to their businesses.  Liberty Coin Service in the Frandor Shopping Center and Premier Coins & Collectibles in Delta Township will provide one of these new quarters for each donation of a non-perishable food item or a $1 cash donation to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Said Patrick A. Heller, owner of Liberty Coin Service, “The past two “Cans For Quarters” campaigns we did for the debut of the Statehood Quarter series in 1999 and of the Michigan Quarter in 2004 together resulted in more than five tons of food donations and over $10,000 in cash donations to this great community organization.  As we did then, there will be a limit of four quarters per person for food donations or a roll of forty quarters for a $40 cash donation.”
Premier Coins & Collectibles partner Bob Sweet said, “My family has supported the Greater Lansing Food Bank for years.  Ever since Premier opened, we have had a bin to collect food donations for this worthy cause.”

Beyond collecting donations in their respective stores, Heller is also contacting schools.  For those schools willing to conduct a school-wide food drive, Heller will visit the school to make educational presentations about the America The Beautiful Quarter™ Program and to give each student one of the quarters.

The Greater Lansing Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides emergency food to individuals and families in need in Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties.  Food is distributed through an extensive network of food pantries and community kitchens throughout the greater Lansing area.  The Food Bank annually serves tens of thousands of people, many of them seniors and children, and includes the “working poor” who are struggling to meet basic living expenses.
Award-winning Liberty Coin Service, in the Bank of America and Clippert Buildings in the Frandor Shopping Center in Lansing, was established in 1971.  It is Michigan’s largest rare coins and precious metals bullion dealership.  Owner Pat Heller is the author of Liberty’s Outlook, the company’s monthly newsletter, and writes weekly gold and precious metals commentaries for www.numismaster.com and www.coinupdate.com.  Most recently, he was honored with the 2010 Greater Lansing Entrepreneurial Awards for the Retail category and with the American Numismatic Association Presidential Award in 2008.  As a member of the Michigan Quarter Commission appointed by former Governor John Engler, Heller was also the primary author of the written description supplied to the US Mint for the design of the 2004 Michigan quarter, effectively being the unofficial “artist” of the coin.  Heller also serves as treasurer and a member of the board of directors of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets, the national trade association for precious metals and rare coin dealers.
