Scandal to Push Gold Coins Higher?

Demand and premiums for common-date pre-1934 U.S. gold coins could soar in the coming weeks. They hit rock bottom about two to three months ago. Prices for circulated Morgan and Peace dollars reached a temporary bottom about three months ago, while generic high-grade Morgan and Peace Dollars have been sliding along a low for much of 2012.

If you talk with or visit enough coin dealers, you will experience the whole gamut of customer service and a wide range of value (i.e., quality and price). That is one of the benefits of visiting coin shows and brick and mortar coin stores. You will have the opportunity to experience the level of friendliness and helpfulness, or lack thereof, first hand. You will also have the opportunity to judge how strictly or loosely a dealer interprets grading standards and their relative pricing policies.

Does Slab Add Value to Bullion?

It seems like it was 10 years ago that some dealers thought up the idea of certifying bullion coins to imbue some of them with a hint of numismatic rarity. Help Stop Fakes

It’s up to us all to put up or shut up on the matter of Chinese and other fakes. An investment of 15 minutes of your time will do it. It could reap benefits for you worth much more than that. On June 22, H.R. 5977 was introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill, titled “Collectible Coin Protection Act” was co-sponsored by Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, and Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich. Smith is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and Upton is chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the two committees that will likely handle the bill. The main purpose of this bill is to add language to the existing Hobby Protection Act to also target those “providing substantial assistance or support to any manufacturer, importer, or seller” of counterfeit items.
